Discover your sign in the ancient Mayan calendar and the teachings the Mayans held for those born on your day.

The Mayan Horoscope is one of the most sophisticated astrological systems humanity has ever known. The Maya did not use a twelve-sign zodiac like the Western one: they used the Tzolkin, a sacred calendar of 260 days with 20 solar seals and 13 cosmic tones. Each combination produces a unique kin that describes your spiritual energy at the source. This app calculates your kin and delivers the Mayan teaching held for those born on your day.

What is the Mayan Horoscope?

The Maya civilisation, which flourished in Mesoamerica between 250 and 900 CE, developed 17 distinct calendars for different purposes. The most used for spiritual matters is the Tzolkin (count of sacred days), a 260-day cycle formed by the combination of 20 solar seals (symbols: Imix, Ik, Akbal, Kan, Chicchan…) and 13 cosmic tones (numbers 1 through 13).

Each combination of seal + tone is called a kin: there are 260 unique kins and every person is born under one of them. Your kin describes your spiritual archetype: the seal gives the essential quality of your energy, the tone defines the frequency with which you express it. This app calculates your kin from your date of birth and delivers its wisdom.

Seals and Tones

The 20 solar seals represent archetypes: Imix (red dragon, life, nourishment), Ik (white wind, spirit, communication), Akbal (blue night, abundance, dreamer), Kan (yellow seed, flowering), Chicchan (red serpent, vital force), and so on up to Ahau (yellow sun, illumination). Each has a colour and a cardinal direction.

The 13 cosmic tones are functions: 1-Magnetic (attracts purpose), 2-Lunar (polarises challenge), 3-Electric (activates service), 4-Self-Existing (defines form), 5-Overtone (radiates command), 6-Rhythmic (organises equality), 7-Resonant (channels inspiration), 8-Galactic (models integrity), 9-Solar (pulses intention), 10-Planetary (perfects manifestation), 11-Spectral (liberates dissolution), 12-Crystal (universalises cooperation), 13-Cosmic (transcends presence). The tone tells you how you express the seal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as the Mayan prophecies horoscope?
No. The "Mayan prophecies" are modern interpretations (often sensationalist) about the end of baktun 13 in 2012. The personal Mayan horoscope is the Tzolkin system, which is genuine Mayan astrology: a self-knowledge tool based on their sacred calendar. It has no connection to apocalyptic scenarios or end-of-the-world prophecies.
How does it differ from the Western horoscope?
The Western uses 12 solar signs by month; the Mayan uses 260 kins by day. The Mayan is far more precise: you share a kin only with people born exactly 260 days apart, not with a twelfth of humanity. This is why it describes more specific profiles. The cosmology is also different: the Mayan is sacred cosmic cycles; the Western is solar seasons.
How was the starting date calculated?
The Maya fixed the beginning of the Tzolkin at a mythical date in the Long Count calendar (4 Ahau 8 Cumku, equivalent to 11 August 3114 BCE in the Gregorian calendar according to the most accepted correlation). From there, the days are counted continuously. Your kin is calculated from the difference in days between that date and your date of birth, modulo 260.
Is there a modern version called the "13 Moon Calendar"?
Yes. José Argüelles popularised in the 1980s a modern systematisation of the Tzolkin — the "Dreamspell / 13 Moon Synchronometer" — as a spiritual tool. It is the best-known version in the West today. Some purists criticise it for departing from traditional Mayan usage; others value it as a useful cultural bridge. This app uses the classical correlation.
