The Chinese Horoscope is one of the oldest astrological systems in the world. Unlike the Western zodiac (12 signs by birth month), the Chinese system assigns each person a zodiac animal based on their birth year: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog or Pig. Each animal defines deep personality traits and compatibilities. This app calculates your sign and delivers your annual prediction with a personalised interpretation.

What is the Chinese Horoscope?

The Chinese zodiac system is over 2,000 years old. It arose during the Han dynasty and developed over centuries linked to the lunar calendar and the Taoist cosmology of the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water). Each year is governed by an animal and an element, forming a 60-year cycle (12 animals × 5 elements = 60 unique combinations).

According to legend, it was the Jade Emperor who summoned all the animals to a race; the first twelve to arrive each earned a year of the zodiac in the order they finished. The rat arrived first by cunning — crossing the river on the ox's back and leaping ahead at the end. This story explains the order and archetypal traits: the rat is clever, the ox patient, the tiger brave, the rabbit cautious, the dragon powerful, and so on.

Your Animal and Your Element

Each animal has basic traits: Rat (intelligent, adaptable, charming), Ox (steady, strong, reliable), Tiger (brave, passionate, a natural leader), Rabbit (sensitive, refined, diplomatic), Dragon (powerful, magnetic, self-assured), Snake (wise, intuitive, deep), Horse (free-spirited, energetic, sociable), Goat (creative, gentle, a dreamer), Monkey (ingenious, playful, brilliant), Rooster (proud, precise, hardworking), Dog (loyal, fair, protective), Pig (generous, honest, pleasure-loving).

The element of your birth year colours the animal. A Wood Tiger is not the same as a Fire Tiger: the first is more diplomatic and constructive, the second more impulsive and temperamental. The AI calculates your exact animal and element and delivers a prediction combining both.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is my Chinese animal calculated?
By your birth year in the Chinese calendar, which begins with Chinese New Year (between late January and mid-February depending on the year). If you were born in January or early February, it is worth verifying the exact date of Chinese New Year for that year, as you might belong to the previous year's animal.
Is it compatible with the Western horoscope?
Yes, they are complementary systems. The Western horoscope describes your personality by birth month (sun sign); the Chinese one, by year (animal). A person can be a Gemini–Tiger, an Aries–Rabbit, and so on. Each combination carries its own nuances. Many modern astrologers integrate both systems for more complete portraits.
Does animal compatibility work?
In Chinese tradition, yes. There are harmonious triads of animals that get along well (Rat–Dragon–Monkey, for example) and conflictive pairings (Rat–Horse, Ox–Goat). It is not an exact science, but it is an interesting interpretive layer for understanding bonds. Real compatibility, of course, depends on many more variables.
Does the Chinese year predict what will happen?
It works as a compass for the year. Each year has an animal and element that defines its collective energetic climate. For your personal animal, the year can be favourable, neutral or challenging (especially the "zhi year" — the year of your own animal — which is considered a sensitive year). It is useful information for planning major steps, not a literal prediction of events.
