What Are the Divinatory Arts?

The divinatory arts or mancies are ancestral practices that different cultures have developed to obtain guidance or information about the future. The Greek suffix -mancy (from μαντεία, manteia) means "divination". Each culture found its own "medium" to interpret signs: fire (pyromancy), smoke (capnomancy), dreams (oneiromancy), shells (shell casting), etc.

What they all share is the intention to connect with something beyond the rational mind: intuition, the collective unconscious or universal energies. Whatever each person's beliefs, these practices invite reflection and attention to aspects of life we usually overlook.
