Discover your sign in Japanese astrology and the Far East secrets that define your personality and destiny.

The Japanese Horoscope blends two ancient influences: the Chinese astrology imported and refined in the archipelago, and the native system of blood types (ketsuekigata) which in Japan functions as an additional layer of character. This app combines both tools to offer you an astrological portrait in the Japanese style: aesthetic, precise and oriented towards inner balance.

What is the Japanese Horoscope?

Japan inherited the zodiac of 12 Chinese animals in the 6th century through Buddhism, but adapted it with its own nuances. The signs carry Japanese names: Ne (Rat), Ushi (Ox), Tora (Tiger), U (Rabbit), Tatsu (Dragon), Mi (Snake), Uma (Horse), Hitsuji (Goat/Sheep), Saru (Monkey), Tori (Rooster), Inu (Dog), I (Boar instead of Pig).

But modern Japanese astrology adds blood type as a personality factor. In Japan, asking "what is your blood type?" is as common as asking "what is your sign?" here. Each blood group (A, B, AB, O) is associated with an archetypal profile. The combination of animal + blood type produces surprisingly fine-tuned portraits.

Animal and Blood Type

In ketsuekigata, each type has its own profile. Type A: meticulous, responsible, perfectionist, reserved, loyal. Type B: independent, creative, passionate, spontaneous. Type AB: rational, calm, dual, mysterious, adaptable. Type O: confident, a leader, generous, ambitious, sociable.

The combination with the zodiac animal produces specific variations. A Tora (Tiger) Type A is a disciplined and reflective Tiger; a Tora Type B is a passionate and unpredictable Tiger. The AI combines both systems into a personalised prediction that captures that Japanese aesthetic of precise detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it the same as the Chinese horoscope?
It shares the 12 animals (with the pig replaced by boar), but the interpretive culture is different. Chinese astrology emphasises the five elements and Taoist cosmic cycles. Japanese astrology puts the focus on blood type, a system with no equivalent in China. And the Japanese aesthetic sensibility permeates the interpretations: more subtle, more nuanced, less predictive.
Does the blood type system really work?
It is a cultural system without scientific backing. Haematology finds no correlation between blood type and personality. But as a symbolic-cultural system in Japan it functions: people partly behave according to the expectations of their blood type, which reinforces the stereotype. Take it as a layer of self-knowledge, not a biological law.
Are there other Japanese divination systems?
Yes, many. Onmyodo (the way of yin-yang) was the official esoteric system of the imperial court. Kuji-in, protective mudras. Shinto has purification rituals and consultation of the kami. Japanese numerology uses the kotodama system (the power of words). There is a very rich Japanese esoteric universe, largely unknown in the West.
What does it mean if my animal is the same as the current year's?
In Japan this is called nendoshi: your "birth year." Traditionally it is considered a sensitive year: not necessarily good or bad, but requiring extra care in major decisions. Many people perform a yakuyoke (protection rite) at a shrine to begin the birth year with good energy.
