Destiny
Destiny, in the spiritual and esoteric tradition, is the path that each soul has come to walk in this incarnation: a combination of predetermined elements (kármico inheritance, family, circumstances of birth, life lessons) and free space for personal choice. Distinct from "fate" (rigid, ineluctable) by the active role of free will.
Concept across traditions
The Spanish word "destino" comes from the Latin destinare ("to fix, to determine"). The concept appears in all spiritual cultures with different nuances: Greek moira (the assigned share, what the gods determined for you, ineluctable); Roman fatum (literally "what was said" by the gods, also rigid); Hindu karma (results of past actions in this and previous lives, modifiable through conscious actions); Islamic qadar (divine decree, but with space for human responsibility); Christian providence (divine plan, but compatible with free will).
Modern esoteric tradition tends to integrate these concepts in a holistic vision: there is a personal destiny inscribed in your natal chart, in your destiny number, in your inherited karma; AND there is free will to walk that destiny consciously or unconsciously, accepting it or resisting, deepening it or remaining superficial. Destiny is the river — but you decide how to swim it.
Predetermined and free
What seems predetermined: the family in which you are born, the country, the era, the body, the parents, the cultural circumstances, basic personality patterns visible in your astrological and numerological chart, certain probable life lessons (karma to settle, gifts to develop). It is the script you came with.
What seems free: how you face each circumstance (with consciousness or in autopilot), what concrete decisions you make at each crossroads (each one closes some doors and opens others), the level of internal evolution you achieve, the relationships you cultivate and which you let go, what you do with your gifts. It is your interpretation of the script.
The most evolved spiritual visions speak of "plan of soul" chosen before incarnating: the soul, in dialogue with its guides, chooses the basic conditions of the next life to learn what it needs. Once incarnated, you forget that pact (the so-called "veil of forgetfulness") — but you can rediscover it through your study of yourself, your dreams, your synchronicities, your tarot consultations and meditation. Knowing your destiny is recovering memory of why you came.
Working with your destiny
Practical tools to know your destiny: natal chart (gives your astrological soul plan), destiny number (gives the energy of your life mission), karmic debts (lessons brought from previous lives), tarot for specific consultations, regressive meditation for deep memory, therapy and self-knowledge for everyday coherence. Knowing your destiny is not "predicting the future" — it is recognising the path you came to walk, and walking it consciously.
