Cleromancy is the art of divining the future with dice. Roll the dice and discover the messages hidden in the numbers.
Dice divination (dadomancy, also called cleromancy or astragalomancy in its ancient Greek form) is the art of reading the future through the casting of dice. Practised by Greeks, Romans, Vikings, Mongols and virtually every culture that had dice, it is one of the oldest forms of oracular consultation. Three dice, one question, one sum with precise meaning. This app delivers your reading according to classical tradition.
The dice of dadomancy have ancient and multicultural origins. The Romans called them tesserae and cast them before battles and important decisions. The Greeks used astragaloi (sheep ankle bones — the first dice in human history). The Chinese had systems using six dice; the Vikings used three; the Norse sometimes carved their dice with runes to combine two oracular systems.
The most commonly used technique in the West is the casting of three dice onto a circle drawn on the ground (or on a dedicated cloth). Dice that fall inside the circle count; those outside do not. The sum of the three gives a number from 3 to 18, each with a precise meaning inherited from tradition. This app simulates that casting.
