Origin in Pythagorean numerology

The personality number is part of the system of five core numbers of modern Pythagorean numerology: destiny number, life-path number, soul number, personality number and birthday number. Each one describes a different aspect of the person. Together they paint a complete numerological portrait.

The system traces back to the Pythagorean school (6th century BC) and was systematised in its current form by L. Dow Balliett and Florence Campbell at the beginning of the 20th century, who established the convention of separating vowels (soul) from consonants (personality) of the name.

How it is calculated

1) Take your full name at birth (as it appears on your birth certificate). 2) Identify only the consonants (Y is normally treated as consonant when it appears between consonants or at the start of a syllable). 3) Convert each consonant to a number according to the Pythagorean conversion table (1=A,J,S; 2=B,K,T; 3=C,L,U; 4=D,M,V; 5=E,N,W; 6=F,O,X; 7=G,P,Y; 8=H,Q,Z; 9=I,R). 4) Sum all values. 5) Reduce to a single digit (or master number 11, 22, 33).

Example: Maria Lopez Garcia. Consonants: M-R-L-P-Z-G-R-C. Values: 4+9+3+7+8+7+9+3 = 50 → 5+0 = 5. Maria has personality number 5: she projects an image of free, communicative, versatile, fun person. Each number from 1 to 9 (plus master numbers) describes a specific projected image.
