Soul number

Origin and concept

In Pythagorean numerology, vowels are considered the "breath" of the name: the sound vibration that comes from inside, from the deep self. Consonants give external form (personality), vowels give internal soul. The soul number is therefore distinguished from the personality number, which works with consonants.

L. Dow Balliett and Florence Campbell, founding figures of modern numerology in the early 20th century, established the convention of calling this number "Soul Urge" or "Heart's Desire". It is what you really want when no one is looking, beyond what you should want or what you project externally.

How it is calculated

1) Take your full name at birth exactly as it appears on your birth certificate. 2) Identify only the vowels (A, E, I, O, U; Y is treated as vowel when it functions as one — in standalone "Y" or when it acts as the only vowel of a syllable). 3) Convert each vowel to a number according to the Pythagorean table (A=1, E=5, I=9, O=6, U=3, Y=7). 4) Sum all values. 5) Reduce to a single digit (or master number 11, 22, 33).

Example: Maria Lopez Garcia. Vowels: A-I-A-O-E-A-I-A. Values: 1+9+1+6+5+1+9+1 = 33 → master number, do not reduce. Maria has soul number 33: her soul deeply desires to teach, heal, serve as a high vibration master. The soul tells you what really fills you up, what your authentic vocation is, what you cannot stop wanting even when reason says otherwise.
